The Real Tsaritsa (Classic Reprint) by Lili Dehn Pdf

Excerpt from The Real Tsaritsa IN giving to the world my memories of the Empress Alexandra of Russia, I do not wish to pose as one who is biased by a long and intimate friend ship. I write of the Tsaritsa as I knew her; the real Tsaritsa. I was not acquainted with the heroine of the films, the hysterical devotee, or the pro-german who, it is asserted, betrayed both her country by adoption and the country which knew her as a granddaughter of Queen Victoria and the daughter of a much loved. This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1922 edition. Excerpt: ...Partly out of curiosity I obeyed, and, when I saw Rasputin, he demanded an explanation. "Of what?" I asked. "Oh... thou know'st well enough. Art thou going to follow the example of these frivolous Society women? Why art thou not walking with thy husband?" He repeatedly said to women who sought his advice: "If you mean to do wrong, first come and tell me." So I can do no more than speak of Rasputin as I found him. If I had been a Rasputiniere, or the victim of an abnormal passion, I should not be living happily with my husband, and Captain Dehn would never have countenanced any association with Rasputin if the latter had been guilty of immoralities at Tsarkoe Selo. His duty as a husband would have been greater than his devotion to the Imperial Family. I cannot entirely defend the Empress's attitude. I love her, I reverence her memory, but I think she was, in many ways, perhaps, mistaken in her outlook. She argued, very rightly, that, even if she belonged to Russia, her soul belonged to God, and she had a perfect right to worship Him exactly in what manner most appealed to her. I have mentioned her views as to position being no ban where the instruments of God were concerned. In a worldly sense this was impossible, especially in Russia, where humility appealed neither to the peasant nor to the higher classes. The religious "communism" of the Empress outraged their sense of fitness... the peasants could not understand one of their own class being on intimate terms with the Sovereigns... the higher classes were bitterly contemptuous. Knowing the strong religious convictions of the Empress and the inborn characteristics of both classes, the Revolutionaries found in Rasputin a fitting agent of Imperial...

The Romance of an Empress by Kazimierz Waliszewski Pdf

Excerpt from The Romance of an Empress: Catherine II, of Russia It may be as well to state that the original book is not written in Parisian French; it has the colloquialisms of a foreigner, wishing to' be more native than the natives. The translator has not attempted to remove, or even to atten uate, this Russian accent, so to speak. He has endeavoured merely to make his rendering as close as possible to the original. Confessions of the Czarina (Classic Reprint) by Count Paul Vassili Pdf

Excerpt from Confessions of the Czarina A Few months before the great war broke out, there appeared a book, which, under the title Behind the Veil of the Russian Court, bearing the signature of Count Paul Vassili, a name that had become famous through the publication of the volume called La Societe de Berlin. A lively interest was aroused by Behind the Veil of the Russian Court, dealing as it did with the intimate existence of four Russian Sovereigns and their respective Courts. The author of this book was declared to be already dead, out of a very natural feeling of precaution for his personal safety. Count Vassili was living in Petrograd at the time, and most certainly would have been banished to Siberia, and perhaps tried for lese-majeste, if that fact had been discovered. At the present moment the reasons for concealing it exist no longer, and Count Vassili is free to live once more and to publish another work of even greater interest - the life of the former Czarina Alexandra. Six Years at the Russian Court (Classic Reprint) by M. Eagar Pdf

Excerpt from Six Years at the Russian Court The English daily papers described the Emperor and his family as having fled in their yacht, at a time when the yacht was deeply embedded in ice outside Kronstadt. I could multiply such stories ad lib., but merely wish to draw attention to the fact that so much that is written regarding Russia and the Imperial family is absolutely untrue, so little is really known about the Court life, that I am emboldened to offer my slight sketches of life in the Palaces. It would be very easy for me to pile on the agony, to represent the Emperor as a much ridden man; to picture plots and counter plots; to speak of hairbreadth escapes from death; of hidden bombs; of life made horrible by fears but no such things have occurred in my six years at the Russian Court, and I am a truthful person, and have not started forth to write fiction, but plain, unvarnished truth.
