Stand by Your Truth by Rickey Smiley Pdf

Part memoir, part testimonial, and part life guide, Stand by Your Truth mixes Rickey Smiley’s down-home humor with the values he learned from being raised by three generations of elders, steeped in the Baptist church, and mentored by some of the most celebrated comics in the entertainment industry today. “I’m very passionate about everything that I do and I don’t play any games. I just keep it honest. I don’t put on airs. That’s the only way you can be. If you tell one lie, you’ve got to tell another lie. I’m cool with who I am. What you see is what you get.” Stand-up comic. Single dad. Radio personality. TV star. Prankster. Producer. Community activist. Man of faith. Visit a church, comedy club, college campus, or barber shop, and you’ll find few people who aren’t familiar with, or fans of, Rickey Smiley. At least four million listeners in more than seventy markets tune in every weekday morning to hear him banter with his radio show crew, hilariously prank call an unsuspecting listener, and perform skits featuring his one-man cast of characters, including “Lil Darryl,” “Beauford,” and “Joe Willie.” But in between the rapid-fire jokes and celebrity dish are flashes of how Rickey views the world, from the challenges of raising children, to the importance of education, to the need to always stand by your own truth. After more than two decades in the spotlight, Rickey is finally ready to delve more deeply into the opinions he voices on the air, riffing on those issues that his listeners, viewers, and fans find most important. This collection of personal and powerful essays will speak to readers from all walks of life, and is sure to inspire you to Stand by Your Truth.

Reporting Facts and Running from the Truth by Erin Logan Pdf

Are you constantly casting yourself in your own mind as the “loser” who doesn’t measure up no matter how many “wins” you’ve accomplished? Do you raise the bar so high for yourself to the point where all the positive things in your life are overshadowed by pain and suffering, a lot (not all) of which you’ve brought upon yourself trying to prove your worth to others? Erin Logan learned the hard way that what you think of YOU is really what matters. With a rude awakening in 2010, being arrested and publicly humiliated “ad nauseam,” as a former boss describes it, Logan continued to run from her inner battle with self-doubt. Things got worse as she made it her mission to prove the haters wrong by focusing ONLY on getting her career back on track, reporting and anchoring in top markets, yet she kept “running from the truth” by not figuring out why she was unhappy. This real-life story by Logan, with insightful contributions from her dad, sounds the alarm to be brave by admitting your flaws and figuring out what’s holding you back from leading a happy, fulfilling life. It also highlights the importance of learning from your mistakes, the power of forgiveness, living in the present, and exiting stage left from situations or people bringing you down.

Truth on the Run by Bill Lindley Pdf

He held no degree and could not claim any special lineage. Modern day sage and teacher Bill Lindley encouraged everyone to go ahead and look for themselves, reinvent the spiritual wheel, and then integrate one's spiritual life into his or her everyday life.Known as Ahimsananda, Bill wrote Truth on the Run the last year of his life after being diagnosed with cancer. When writing these essays Bill demonstrated an urgency and single mindedness never seen in all the forty years he and his life partner were together. A fierce earnestness became his compass on a daily basis, as exemplified by his guru Nisargadatta Maharaj.A rich account of his life experiences as a former Christian monk gone "too independent" easily guides the reader through religious tradition and difficult concepts such as non-duality.

The Forgetting by Sharon Cameron Pdf

From beloved author of Rook comes a brilliant and genre-bending exploration of truth and memory, love and loss in this remarkable story of a civilization that undergoes a collective forgetting. What isn't written, isn't remembered. Even your crimes. Nadia lives in the city of Canaan, where life is safe and structured, hemmed in by white stone walls and no memory of what came before. But every twelve years the city descends into the bloody chaos of the Forgetting, a day of no remorse, when each person's memories -- of parents, children, love, life, and self -- are lost. Unless they have been written. In Canaan, your book is your truth and your identity, and Nadia knows exactly who hasn't written the truth. Because Nadia is the only person in Canaan who has never forgotten. But when Nadia begins to use her memories to solve the mysteries of Canaan, she discovers truths about herself and Gray, the handsome glassblower, that will change her world forever. As the anarchy of the Forgetting approaches, Nadia and Gray must stop an unseen enemy that threatens both their city and their own existence -- before the people can forget the truth. And before Gray can forget her.

Nomic Truth Approximation Revisited by Theo A. F. Kuipers Pdf

This monograph presents new ideas in nomic truth approximation. It features original and revised papers from a (formal) philosopher of science who has studied the concept for more than 35 years. Over the course of time, the author's initial ideas evolved. He discovered a way to generalize his first theory of nomic truth approximation, viz. by dropping an unnecessarily strong assumption. In particular, he first believed to have to assume that theories were maximally specific in the sense that they did not only exclude certain conceptual possibilities, but also that all non-excluded possibilities were in fact claimed to be nomically possible. Now, he argues that the exclusion claim alone, or for that matter the inclusion claim alone, is sufficient to motivate the formal definition of being closer to the nomic truth. The papers collected here detail this generalized view of nomic truthlikeness or verisimilitude. Besides this, the book presents, in adapted form, the relation with several other topics, such as, domain revision, aesthetic progress, abduction, inference to the best explanation, pragmatic aspects, probabilistic methods, belief revision and epistemological positions, notably constructive realism. Overall, the volume presents profound insight into nomic truth approximation. This idea seeks to determine how one theory can be closer to, or more similar to, the truth about what is nomically, e.g. physically, chemically, biologically, possible than another theory. As a result, it represents the ultimate goal of theory oriented empirical science. Theo Kuipers is the author of Studies in Inductive Probability and Rational Expectation (1978), From Instrumentalism to Constructive Realism (2000) and Structures in Science (2001). He is the volume-editor of the Handbook on General Philosophy of Science (2007). In 2005 there appeared two volumes of Essays in Debate with Theo Kuipers, entitled Confirmation, Empirical Progress, and Truth Approximation and Cognitive Structures in Scientific Inquiry.

Encountering Truth by Pope Francis Pdf

Experience the morning homilies of Pope Francis and witness how he continues to change the life of the Catholic Church. Shortly after seven in the morning, Pope Francis gives a brief homily in the little Vatican chapel of Saint Martha, in front of an audience that is always different: gardeners, office workers, nuns and priests, as well as a growing group of journalists. It is a set appointment, and in some ways a revolutionary innovation, where a pope speaks to everyone, off the cuff, without any written text, as he would have done as a parish priest. Encountering Truth is a collection of highlights from these homilies from March 2013 to May 2014. Along with summaries by Radio Vaticana (who recorded and transcribed the homilies) and commentary by Father Antonio Spadaro, SJ, these reflections provide moments of inspiration, simplicity, and a glimpse into the papal world very few ever get to experience.

Nothing But the Truth by Marie Henein Pdf

INSTANT NATIONAL BESTSELLER A critically acclaimed, intimate and no-holds-barred memoir by Canada’s top defence lawyer, Nothing But the Truth weaves Marie Henein’s personal story with her strongly held views on society’s most pressing issues. Marie Henein, arguably the most prominent lawyer in the country, has written a memoir that is at once raw, beautiful, and altogether unforgettable. Her story, as an immigrant from a tight-knit Egyptian-Lebanese family, demonstrates the value of strong role models—from her mother and grandmother, to her brilliant uncle Sami who died of AIDS. She learned the value of hard work, being true to herself and others, and unapologetically owning it all. Marie Henein shares here her unvarnished view on the ethical and practical implications of being a criminal lawyer, and how the job is misunderstood and even demonized. Ironically, her most successful cases made her a “lightning rod” in some circles, confirming her belief that much of the public’s understanding of democracy and the justice system is based on popular culture and social media, and decidedly not the rule of law. As she turns fifty and struggles with the corrosive effect becoming invisible has on women, Marie doubles down on being even more highly visible and opinionated as she deconstructs, among other things, the otherness of the immigrant experience (Where are you really from?), the pros and cons of being a household name in this country, opening her own boutique law firm, and the commoditization of women’s previously unpaid labour popularized by the likes of Martha Stewart. Nothing But the Truth is refreshingly unconstrained and surprising—an account by a woman at the top of her game in a male-dominated world.

Fractured Truth by Caroline Slate Pdf

In The House on Sprucewood Lane, Caroline Slate established herself as a distinctive new voice in psychological suspense, a writer who creates characters so rounded the reader can hear their ragged breathing (Publishers Weekly). Now, in this highly charged story of love and trust turned inside out, she crafts a tale of passion and intrigue, murder and betrayal -- friendship and love. One moment is all it takes to change the course of a life. An instant in time, and a world is forever altered. For successful young jewelry designer Grace Leshansky that moment came when she shot and killed her charismatic con-man husband, Paul Boudreau. Grace never denied the act, never spoke about the moments just before, when her finger tightened around the trigger -- when Paul ripped her world apart with one more lie. Or was it a truth? Manslaughter: to Grace's ear the slaughter of a man sounded worse than murder. It still does seven years later when she's released from prison -- a woman indelibly changed. She returns to New York City, where she finds everything that mattered to her gone. She fiercely misses her father, George, a charming, hapless gambler with a taste for the company of gangsters. But George Leshansky's dead now, killed to prevent his turning FBI witness -- or perhaps, just perhaps, he is alive. As she searches for a way to live with the past and in the present, Grace confronts more memories than she can bear and a few questions she may no longer be brave enough to ask. Almost immediately, risks begin to surface from every direction: Gabriel McCail, a reporter bent on exposing Paul's treacherous life in an insider biography, threatens to stir up the past; and Michael Pyatt, the beautiful boy who loved and left her at seventeen, is back, possibly with information about her father. Will Grace have the courage to face the answers to her questions, or will her quest for the truth jeopardize her newly won freedom, and the lives of those she holds most dear?
