I would say that 99% of women who know how to handle a gun or who are engaged in practical shooting as a sport, were influenced by a male in their lives whether it is the father, husband, brother, boyfriend, uncle or a male friend. Gun ownership, inarguably, is a man’s world. But, it did not say that women cannot dip their fingers to it, if it is necessary, or even if she was just plain interested. In my case, the guilty party was my husband who suavely got my nod, first, for him to own a gun and later on, to join him on his shooting practice, tournaments and gun shows. I have to admit that in the beginning, I would cringe whenever I would see him working on his gun (and later on guns). I always have this thought that it will discharge accidentally and someone could get hurt. At that time, I could not even hold a gun. But then, gradually, I warmed up to it ---- I started holding the gun (no bullets, of course) until later on, my husband would be training me on how to hold it properly, how to get the right stance and eventually how to fire it. Believe it or not, within months, I was going with him on his practice shooting and tournaments. At first, I was the photographer and videographer. Eventually, I would be doing my own practice sessions and would join him on tournaments.

Gun Women by Mary Zeiss Stange,Carol K. Oyster Pdf

Women, we are told, should not own guns. Women, we are told, are more likely to be injured by their own guns than to fend off an attack themselves. This "fact" is rooted in a fundamental assumption of female weakness and vulnerability. Why should a woman not be every bit as capable as a man of using a firearm in self-defense? And yet the reality is that millions of American women--somewhere between 11,000,000 and 17,000,000--use guns confidently and competently every day. Women are hunting, using firearms in their work as policewomen and in the military, shooting for sport, and arming themselves for personal security in ever-increasing numbers. What motivates women to possess firearms? What is their relationship to their guns? And who exactly are these women? Crucially, can a woman be a gun-owner and a feminist too? Women's growing tendency to arm themselves has in recent years been political fodder for both the right and the left. Female gun owners are frequently painted as "trying to be like men" (the conservative perspective) or "capitulating to patriarchal ideas about power" (the liberal critique). Eschewing the polar extremes in the heated debate over gun ownership and gun control, and linking firearms and feminism in novel fashion, Mary Zeiss Stange and Carol K. Oyster here cut through the rhetoric to paint a precise and unflinching account of America's gun women.

The Woman's Guide to Self-Defense by Edmund Parker Pdf

Witnessing the dramatic escalation in violent crimes such as, muggings and sex crimes in the late 60's, Ed Parker Sr., the father of four daughters, felt a need for a realistic method of defense for the cornered woman-the woman who has no means of escape or foreknowledge of an attack. In 1968, he wrote a book specifically for women entitled, complete, with uncluttered black and white line drawings by Jim McQuade for ease of comprehension, women everywhere would be able to follow this step-by step practical guide. Natural weapons and proper blocks were incorporated directly into self-defense techniques and presented as interchangeable methods. All of the techniques, specifically designed by Ed, were tailored appropriately so that a woman could apply many of them without using a great deal of force. In this straightforward, to the point, printed work, Ed introduced the use of personal and/or household articles as weapons, such as, an umbrella, a broom, a lipstick or a comb. Still after 45 years these techniques prove to be a real aid to instructors giving practical, no nonsense self-defense courses to youth and women's groups throughout the world.

Taking Your First Shot by Lynne Finch Pdf

Numbers don’t lie; more and more women are purchasing guns and learning to shoot! While shooting used to be a male-dominated sport, women across the country have begun discovering that a trip to the range not only is relaxing, but also brings with it a sense of strength and empowerment. Taking Your First Shot is an introductory guide perfect for either those stepping out onto the range for the first time or those looking to brush up on their skills. Author Lynne Finch coaches women on the decision to learn to shoot, how to find formal training, selecting and purchasing a handgun, defensive versus practice ammunition, storing and caring for your gun, and concealed carry options. Along with learning the shooting basics, Finch also teaches readers the importance of situational awareness and the basics of self-defense. Sometimes a gun isn’t always an answer, and it’s important to have a proportional response to the situation. Finch begins with teaching readers how to become aware of their surroundings, what to watch for, and how to respond. From there, she goes on to define proportional response and why carrying pepper spray, a kubotan, or even a whistle can make all the difference. Learning to shoot is a personal decision, but with the proper training and practice, shooting can become both an enjoyable and liberating sport.
