Soil Ecotoxicology by Joseph Tarradellas,Gabriel Bitton,Dominique Rossel Pdf

Soils are receptacles for a wide range of hazardous chemicals generated by human activities. Whether or not this contamination is deliberate, accurate toxicity assessments are important for health and economic reasons. Soil Ecotoxicology discusses the sources, fate, and transport of hazardous chemicals in soils. The fate (biodegradation and modeling) and the potential impacts of pesticides on soil ecosystems are emphasized, and methodologies for performing toxicity assessments are provided.

Effects of pesticides on soil fauna: Development of ecotoxicological test methods for tropical regions by Anonim Pdf

Effects of pesticides on soil fauna: Development of ecotoxicological test methods for tropical regions The impact of pesticides on the soil system is an issue of great concern. In the tropics, the environmental risk of pesticides is assessed using methods designed for temperate regions. This pioneer study shows that the toxicity of pesticides (here: two fungicides and an insecticide) measured under tropical conditions, e.g., higher temperature and different test species, can differ greatly from that determined for temperate conditions. Thus, a risk assessment of pesticides for tropical ecosystems based on existing toxicological data from temperate regions alone is not considered sufficient. Additional, adapted tests must be developed for tropical conditions.

Ecological Impacts of Toxic Chemicals by Francisco Sánchez-Bayo, Paul J. van den Brink, Reinier M. Mann Pdf

Ecological Impacts of Toxic Chemicals presents a comprehensive, yet readable account of the known disturbances caused by all kinds of toxic chemicals on both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Topics cover the sources of toxicants, their fate and distribution through the planet, their impacts on specific ecosystems, and their remediation by natural systems. Each chapter is written by well-known specialists in those areas, for the general public, students, and even scientists from outside this field. The book intends to raise awareness of the dangers of chemical pollution in a world dominated by industry and globalization of resources. Because the problems are widespread and far reaching, it is hoped that confronting the facts may prompt better management practices at industrial, agricultural and all levels of management, from local to governmental, so as to reduce the negative impacts of chemical contaminants on our planet.

Nanomaterials for Soil Remediation by Abdeltif Amrane,Dinesh Mohan,Tuan Anh Nguyen,Aymen Amine Assadi,Ghulam Yasin Pdf

Nanomaterials for Soil Remediation provides a comprehensive description on basic knowledge and current research progress in the field of soil treatment using nanomaterials. Soil pollution refers to the presence of toxic chemicals in soil. Compared with air and water remediations, soil remediation is technically more challenging due to its complex composition. The synergy between engineering and nanotechnology has resulted in rapid developments in soil remediation. Nanomaterials could offer new routes to address challenging and pressing issues facing soil pollution. This book aims to explore how nanomaterials are used to cleanse polluted soils (organic compounds and heavy metal-contaminated soils) through various nanomaterials-based techniques (chemical/physical/biological techniques and their integrations). Highlights how nanotechnology is being used to more accurately measure soil pollution levels Discusses how the properties of nanomaterials are being used to make more efficient soil remediation techniques and products Assesses the practical and regulatory challenges of using different nanomaterial-based products for soil repair
