Science and heritage by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Lords: Science and Technology Committee Pdf
This report is an update on developments since the Committee reported in November 2006 (HLP 256, 9th report session 2005-06, ISBN 9780104009550) and the Government published its response (Cm. 7031, ISBN 9780101703123) in January 2007. The Committee had recommended an organisational framework whereby the hitherto fragmented heritage sector could come together with university-based scientists and funding bodies to develop strategic priorities for heritage science and collaborative projects and research proposals. The response at a post-publication seminar attended by representatives from the heritage and science communities was overwhelmingly positive. The Committee welcomes the progress made in implementing its recommendations, but notes that the progress has only come from the heritage sector and research community: the Department for Culture, Media and Sport has failed to grasp the significance of the Committee's recommendations. The Committee urges the new set of ministers at the Department to revisit the original report, respond positively and provide moral leadership to the sector.
Culture and Consensus (Routledge Revivals) by Robert Hewison Pdf
Culture and Consensus, first published in 1995 and a revised edition in 1997, explores the history of the relationship between politics and the arts in Britain since 1940, and shows how the search for a secure sense of English identity has been reflected in official and unofficial attitudes to the arts, architecture, landscape and other emblems of national significance. Illustrating his argument with a series of detailed case histories, Robert Hewison analyses how Britain’s cultural life has reached its present enfeebled condition and suggests a way forward. This book will be of interest to students of art and cultural studies.

Government Response to the Culture, Media and Sport Committee Report on Protecting and Preserving Our Heritage by Great Britain: Department for Culture, Media and Sport Pdf
Britain has a vast wealth of buildings and sites (both ancient and contemporary) whose heritage value is envied and admired around the world. In light of concerns surrounding future developments within the heritage sector and given the imminent publication of the long-trailed Heritage White Paper, the Committee published a report in July 2006 (HCP 912-I, session 2005-06; ISBN 021502995X) into a range of issues relating to the historic environment, focusing on built heritage and archaeological issues. This publication sets out the Government's reply to the Committee's report, under the headings of: government commitment to heritage; other key players, relating to English Heritage, the Heritage Lottery Fund, local authorities, the voluntary sector, private owners and regional development agencies; tools for supporting the historic environment; places of worship; and public engagement.
