Chronic Inflammation by Masayuki Miyasaka,Kiyoshi Takatsu Pdf

This book provides readers with the most up-to-date information on cutting-edge research concerning chronic inflammation. We now know that when inflammation becomes chronic, it acts as a strong disease-promoting factor in a variety of disorders including arteriosclerosis, obesity, cancer, and Alzheimer disease. Chronic inflammation is hence called as the “silent killer”; it upsets the body’s homeostatic mechanism insidiously. In spite of these developments, we know very little about the mechanism underlying chronic inflammation. Particularly, we do not know precisely what induces chronic inflammation or what promotes its prolongation in a spatiotemporal framework. Neither do we have clear knowledge about how chronic inflammation destroys various tissues or how it predisposes individuals to many different diseases. To make the situation worse, we have no effective treatment against chronic inflammation. Since 2010, two major research programs (CREST and PRESTO) aimed at clarifying the mechanisms underlying chronic inflammation were launched in Japan, and investigators of different research areas with a brilliant track record were selected by their research proposals. Subsequently they have made their best efforts to answer the conundrum concerning chronic inflammation. This book is a compendium of such research efforts. In each chapter, the CREST- or PRESTO-funded researchers summarize their original work concerning mechanisms of induction, progression, or resolution underlying chronic inflammation. The most emphasized characteristic is the molecular aspect of chronic inflammation. The book thus presents the most recent progress made in the molecular understanding of chronic inflammation.

This report on Future Trends in Inflammation IV records another of the multidisciplinary meetings organized by the European Biological Research Association. The organizers wish to record their thanks to all the participants and delegates who made this such an enjoyable meeting. Our thanks are due to a number of members of the pharmaceutical industry who so kindly donated funds. These funds were used to provide grants for young research workers to attend this meeting. Many people have kindly given their time and help to make this congress possible. It is impossible to list them by name, but we are profoundly grateful. We were dubious at the outset as to whether to hold this meeting in a period when many other meetings are being organized on inflammation. The enthusiastic attendance proves that we were right in going ahead. The next international meeting will be held in France in 1983. For further details please contact: Professor J. P. Inflammation-Associated Depression: Evidence, Mechanisms and Implications by Robert Dantzer,Lucile Capuron Pdf

Inflammation has invaded the field of psychiatry. The finding that cytokines are elevated in various affective and psychotic disorders brings to the forefront the necessity of identifying the precise research domain criteria (RDoCs) that inflammation is responsible for. This task is certainly the most advanced in major depressive disorders. The reason is that a dearth of clinical and preclinical studies has demonstrated that inflammation can cause symptoms of depression and conversely, cytokine antagonists can attenuate symptoms of depression in medical and psychiatric patients with chronic low grade inflammation. Important knowledge has been gained on the symptom dimensions that inflammation is driving and the mechanisms of action of cytokines in the brain, providing new targets for drug research and development. The aim of the book “Inflammation-Associated Depression” is to present this field of research and its implications in a didactic and comprehensive manner to basic and clinical scientists, psychiatrists, physicians, and students at the graduate level.

A new perspective on the link between inflammation andcancer Inflammation is the human body’s normal biologicalresponse to threats in the modern world, as well as a defenseagainst the harmful influence of pathogens, the environment, andpoor nutrition. But what happens when the inflammatory response istriggered repeatedly and sustained for long periods of time?Cancer and Inflammation Mechanisms: Chemical, Biological, andClinical Aspects discusses the mechanisms by which chronicinflammation can lead to cancer, the various causative agents, andpossible prevention methods. A compilation of the latest information coming out of thevarious fields of cancer research, this book provides a detailedlook at inflammation-related carcinogenesis from the perspective ofresearchers at the forefront of the field. It takes aninterdisciplinary approach to the topic, and provides comprehensiveinformation about the major factors at work in inflammation, cancer, and the intersection of the two conditions. Topicsinclude: A general overview of inflammation-related cancer The biochemistry of inflammation and its effects on DNA Molecular biology and the role of microRNA incarcinogenesis Specific causative agents including oncogenic viruses, asbestos, and nanomaterial Anti-inflammatories, nutraceuticals, and other preventativemeasures A deeper understanding of the mechanisms behindinflammation-related carcinogenesis can lead to better patientoutcomes by improving diagnostics and prevention, as well asaltering the approach to treatment. Cancer and InflammationMechanisms: Chemical, Biological, and Clinical Aspects providesthe knowledge base researchers need to push the field forward.

Inflammatory Processes: by L. Gordon Letts,Douglas W. Morgan Pdf

In November 1998 many of the key leaders of new drug discovery for inflammatory diseases gathered at Hershey, Pennsylvania for the 9th International Conference of the Inflammation Research Association. The Conference was held over a five day period and provided a stimulating environment for the open exchange of important advances in basic inflammation research as well as new drug discovery and development. This book encompasses some of the highlights of several presentations made at the Conference. It contains some of the latest and important developments in the field of inflammation research. Topics include the status of eotaxin and chemokines in asthma and allergy, signal transduction and regulation of diverse mediators such as the JNK group of MAP kinases, TNF and IL-1 signaling of NF-kB as well as regulators of AP-1, macrophage metalloproteinases, lymphotoxin and further insights into the role of MCP-1 in disease. Also discussed are drug targets in rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, fibrotic diseases,...

Inflammation in Heart Failure by Matthijs Blankesteijn,Raffaele Altara Pdf

Inflammation in Heart Failure, edited by W. Matthijs Blankesteijn and Raffaele Altara, is the first book in a decade to provide an in-depth assessment on the causes, symptoms, progression and treatments of cardiac inflammation and related conditions. This reference uses two decades of research to introduce new methods for identifying inflammatory benchmarks from early onset to chronic heart failure and specifically emphasizes the importance of classifying at-risk subgroups within large populations while determining the patterns of cytokines in such classifications. Further, the book details clinical applications of the pathophysiological mechanisms of heart failure, diagnosis and therapeutic strategies. Inflammation in Heart Failure’s breadth of subject matter, easy-to-follow structure, portability, and high-quality illustrations create an accessible benefit for researchers, clinicians and students. Presents updated information and research on the relevant inflammatory mediators of heart failure to aid in targeting future translational research as well as the improvement of early diagnosis and treatment Provides research into better understanding the different inflammatory mediators that signal the underlying diseases that potentially lead to heart failure Contains 20 years of research, offering a brief overview of the topic leading to current opinions on, and treatment of, heart failure Provides a structured, systematic and balanced overview of the role of inflammation in heart failure making it a useful resource for researchers and clinicians, as well as those studying cardiovascular diseases

Fundamentals of Inflammation by Charles N. Serhan,Peter A. Ward,Derek W. Gilroy Pdf

The acute inflammatory response is the body's first system of alarm signals that are directed toward containment and elimination of microbial invaders. Uncontrolled inflammation has emerged as a pathophysiologic basis for many widely occurring diseases in the general population. This book provides an introduction to the cell types, chemical mediators, and general mechanisms of the host's first response to invasion.
